About Dr. Michael Höpfner

Dr. Michael Höpfner

Dr Höpfner graduated in medicine from the University of Göttingen in 1986. He completed his doctoral thesis under Professor Dr. Dr. W. Creutzfeldt, graduating summa cum laude.

Parallel to his studies, Dr Höpfner was also an active member of the German armed services and, after graduating, served as a Medical Officer, heading the air force medical squadron and specializing in aviation medicine. In 1993 Dr Höpfner joined the Medical Clinic at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel as a scientific assistant where he worked in a variety of departments including pulmonology, gastroenterology and sonography. He moved to the Red Cross Hospital in Kassel in 2001, first as a Consultant and then, in 2008, to his current post as Senior Consultant.

He regularly lectures on ultrasound courses and workshops in the fields of abdominal sonography, especially contrast agent sonography. He is also a recognized practitioner for duplex sonography and is a specialist in internal medicine and gastroenterology.

Dr Höpfner is a member of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, the German society of digestive and metabolic diseases (DGVS), and the German society for internal medicine (DGIM). He is also a member of DEGUM, the German society for ultrasound in medicine, where he is a seminar leader.
